Announcements
Sessions are held every Thursday from 4:00pm to 5:00 pm with pickups at the Front Gate! or from KYDS after 5:00 pm.
Please sign the LAUSD Media Release form and Beyond the Bell form at your earliest convenience. We handed out some during the last meeting, however we ran out so you may have to print them (PDFs should be in the most recent FLL email).
If you have any questions or would like to sign up your child, please email kmontemay23@gmail.com!
*Photos will be posted once all members have signed the lausd media release form. We know you've probably signed that specific form on the summer packet, as well as the media release on the Beyond the Bell form, but lausd bureaucracy requires that we give you one more. We appreciate your understanding!
9/18/2025: Students did some icebreakers, then groups competed to build the tallest straw tower using their non-dominant hands.
9/25/2025: Students were taught the engineering design process, then began designing lego robots to complete a challenge.
First Lego League is a school year long competition hosted by FIRST, during which teams comprised of under 16 students are tasked with a building a robot out of LEGO parts that can effectively complete that season's "tasks". Students will then compete in live matches against other teams to determine placements and advancements. Students in grades 4-8 are allowed to compete. More information can be found here.
We have students compete amongst each other in small teams of ~4 students so that everyone gets an opportunity to learn engineering and leadership skills. As of this year, we are not officially registering our FLL teams and participating in off-campus competitions because we'd like to teach the students about competitive robotics in a less stressful environment before having them compete with teams around the world. However, we are hoping to compete officially during the 2026-2027 FLL season.
We will be going through the official FIRST FLL curriculum. The table on the right shows how much we plan to complete throughout the year. The specific lesson plans we will be following can be downloaded using the link below.
Donations are not and will never be required for your child to participate in FLL, however they do allow us to significantly improve and expand the program with new parts, electronics, and equipment. Purchases would include more Legos, motors, competition fields, and registration fees for future years.
Our donation page can be found here.
Note: By default, donations will go to both high school robotics and FLL. If you would like your donation to only be used for FLL, please put "For FLL" in the message box when you make your donation.
